College Fairs

 

It is highly encouraged that students try to attend one or two college fairs. College Fairs are a must for Juniors and Seniors. These are also good for 9th and 10th grade students who are beginning to think about colleges and career choices.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, all local in-person college fairs have been canceled this year. Though you cannot attend in-person, you still can attend virtually. Please click VIRTUAL COLLEGE FAIR to sign-up and view what college fairs will be taking place!

Local College Fairs

 

  • CANCELED - National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) College Fair - Held at Duke Energy Convention Center, Cincinnati, Ohio.

  • CANCELED - Columbus Area Christian College Fair - Held at Grove City Christian School (4750 Hoover Road, Grove City, OH 4313).

  • CANCELED - The Lancaster City/Fairfield County College Fair - Held at Ohio University – Lancaster (1570 Granville Pike, Lancaster, OH 43130).

  • CANCELED - Performing and Visual Arts College Fair - Held at Xavier University.

  • CANCELED - The Columbus Kiwanis College Fair - Held at the Center for Science and Industry (COSI).

  • CANCELED - The Learning Differences College Fair - Held at Gahanna Lincoln High School.

  • CANCELED - Performing and Visual Arts College Fair - Held at John Carroll University.

  • CANCELED - The Suburban College Fair - Held at the Clements Center at Otterbein University.

College Fair Preparation

 

  • Look over the list of colleges participating. Target a few you want to see. Generally, the college tables are arranged alphabetically.

  • Introduce yourself to the college representative. Shake his/her hand. Make eye contact. He/She might ask you to fill out an interest card or sign your name to a list.

  • Ask questions that aren’t answered in books or literature such as, "How do you assign roommates in the dorms?" or "Is it hard to change majors at the college?"

  • Make sure you have the college representative’s name, telephone number and e-mail address. This is your personal contact at this college.

  • Remember to say "Thank You!" when you finish your conversations.

  • Give yourself some time just to walk around the tables. Learn about new colleges and their services.

 

Common College Fair Questions to Ask

  • Do many students go home on weekends?

  • Does faculty make time for individual students? Are they accessible outside of class?

  • Are there athletic facilities that are open to all students?

  • Does the college have academic programs that fit my several current interests?

  • Do the dorms have network wireless access so I can access the Internet and my e-mail?

  • Are many classes taught over the Internet instead of in classrooms?

  • Will I have access to special equipment (such as an electron microscope) as a first-year student?

  • What are the strengths and weaknesses of the college’s advising system?

  • How many students will there be in courses I’m likely to take in my first year? Are those courses taught by professors or by graduate assistants?

  • What kinds of campus jobs are available for first-year students?

  • Will there be any new programs or facilities in the next two years?
